New Orleans Vacation May 2018 ~ Day 5

On the fifth day of our vacation, we rode the historic St. Charles streetcar to the National World War II museum in New Orleans.  

When we decided to go to New Orleans, Jeff was excited to go to the WWII museum, so we spent most of the day there.  Jeff and Brady returned to the museum the next morning to see the movie, "Beyond All Boundaries", narrated by Tom Hanks.

New Orleans Vacation May 2018 ~ Day 4 (Video!)

On the fourth day of our vacation in New Orleans, we took a harbor jazz cruise on the Steamboat Natchez!

We had a New Orleans lunch buffet menu ~ southern fried fish, baked chicken, red beans and rice, jambalaya, tossed salad, white chocolate bread pudding, la Louisiane sliced French bread, coffee, iced tea, and water.

After the steamboat cruise, we went to the Chalmette National Battlefield, site of the Battle of New Orleans in 1815.

The Rene Beauregard House is an 1830s porticoed mansion, an example of French-Louisiana architecture, overlooking the battlefield.

Kaitlyn found a cute little café serving beignets!

Beignets, which are a deep-fried choux pastry, were brought to New Orleans in the 18th Century by French colonists.

Since beignets are not gluten-free, I found a little shop that had southern pecan pralines!

We also visited a quaint little bookshop.

We spent the second day of the trip driving on to New Orleans, and the next day we went to the French Quarter!

New Orleans Vacation May 2018 ~ Day 1

On our first day of our vacation this summer, we toured the Gibson Guitar Factory in Memphis and went to Graceland! 

The tour guide offered to let Elli hold a $5000 sparkly light blue guitar for a picture!

Graceland ~ the home of Elvis Presley.  It had been close to 20 years since we had visited.

Before the fireworks show started, Kaitlyn and I went to the Emporium to buy baby Simba, that Elli had been wishing for, as a 1/2 birthday present.

After the fireworks show, we got in one more ride on Pirates of the Caribbean.

The next day, we flew back home.  I think Elli and her puppy, Marshmallow, were happy to see each other!
